Sheridan Road Gas Leak
Gas line struck during construction project
Sheridan, OR [August 15th 2016]: At approximately 09:16 AM today R & G excavating, a private contractor working on a project for the City of Sheridan, struck a 2” gas line near the 900 block of SE Sheridan road. Units from Sheridan Fire District, City Public Works and Northwest Natural Gas responded to the scene. It was determined, based on the size of the leak and the weather conditions that a residence and a doctor’s office. Traffic was also restricted to those in the immediate area’s evacuation to reduce the risk of a fire.
Initial reports from Northwest Natural Gas indicated there would be a two hour wait for the leak to be controlled due to the potential for the line to be a metal instead of the more flexible poly line. Thanks to the rapid response and quick work of the gas company crews the issue was resolved within an hour of their notification.
Sheridan Fire District turned the scene over to the gas company once they declared the leak secured. The gas company continued to work on scene repairing the line and checking the nearby structures for signs of gas and would be allowing occupants to return to the two structures we evacuated.
